Public Safety

Both our police department and fire department are short staffed due to retirements, volunteers and the current times we are living in.  As your Commissioner, I will do everything to make sure our Police Department is fully staffed and properly equipped.  Currently there are inadequate amounts of volunteers to properly respond to fire calls.  This life-threatening situation needs to be addressed now, not when it is too late or when something dramatic occurs. Cetronia Ambulance supplies EMT services, in conjunction with the Police and Fire Departments, an evaluation of their past services and performances should be conducted.  

Police & Traffic:

• The current staff is dedicated and working at maximum capacity they are in need of relief in order to avoid burnout.
• Currently there is a shortage of five police officers.
• Infiltration of unlicensed vehicles (motorcycles, ATV's etc..) running chaotic on our streets.
• Macarthur Road speeding and the running of traffic lights creates the need for high police visibility in these areas.

Fire Police & Volunteers:

• Our fire department is volunteer based.  Today there are requirements for fire training in order to be a volunteer.  Many of our volunteers find the demand of time to maintain this training difficult.  While we can not manage without our volunteers, it is becoming more difficult to ask them to work long hours with no compensation.
• It is time to conduct a comprehensive study of what is needed to maintain a paid and volunteer department, an example is currently being used by the Borough of Emmaus.
• A big thank you to our volunteers who make our current system work as well as it possibly can.
