Meet Ken Snyder

As I mentioned Whitehall 1st is important to all of us.  I moved to the township in 1964.  At that time we were known as "villages" consisting of Fullerton, West Catty, Hokey, Cementon, Styles, and Egypt.  I believe it is now time to keep the tradition of having the villages but it is also time to look towards the future as one local community.

Recreation expenses are 25% of our over all budget equating to $1,200,000.  We need to recognize that the volunteers require us to look forward as being one community.

Retail business taxes provide $1,600,000 in revenue for the Township.  It is imperative to maintain a healthy retail environment and work with our retail industry to upgrade our current retail space.  

Residential communities are also a key part of a healthy community.  We need to provide housing that is both affordable to both existing residents and attractive to potential residents. These housing choices should include home sites for first time home buyers, downsizing, and expanding uses.  Smart residential growth is important.  While you may not agree, it is important to have a wide range of residential choices. I believe that although there is not much left to develop it is important to have the proper zoning to allow for growth and open space.  Our earned income tax provides $7,600,000 in revenue from our residents.

My Qualifications

I am a graduate of Whitehall High School, class of 1971, my wife Linda (Dech) is also a Whitehall graduate from the class of 1973.  We will be married for 49 years in May.  We have three children, Kristie, who is married to Jeff Vivian, Craig Snyder, and Kerrie Anne, who is married to Bill Fonzone.  All of our children graduated from Whitehall High School.  Our family expanded to include eight grandchildren, seven girls, and one boy, all of whom attend the Whitehall/Coplay School System.  We have been entrenched in Whitehall for 67 years.  I would not trade these 67 years in Whitehall to live anywhere else.

My Community Involvement began early in my career:

• Board of Directors and Past President of the Whitehall Chamber of Commerce
• Past Member of the Whitehall Township Planning Commission
• Past Member of the Whitehall Comprehensive Recreation Committee
• Current Member of the Traffic Impact Committee
• Developer of several residential residential communities of Whitehall
• Business Owner in Whitehall for the past 46 years
