Why am I asking for your Vote for Commissioner of Whitehall Township?
I have been a resident of Whitehall for over 64 years and have watched Whitehall grow from a farm community to a booming retail center in the Lehigh Valley. I am the President of Spectrum Real Estate, Spectrum Homes, and a developer who has been conducting business in Whitehall for 45+ years. Throughout that time I have been lucky enough to watch our community grow while seeing both the positives and negatives that have occurred over the years.
There was a time when Whitehall was the envy of all the other communities in the Lehigh Valley. If you travel throughout the Lehigh Valley you can see there are other communities that are surpassing us with regards to recreation, housing, shopping facilities, and community amenities. I am hopeful that as your Commissioner I can help to improve this situation.
I believe Whitehall is at a "tipping point" where our Mayor and Commissioner need to address the issues we are facing currently and in the future and take action.
On a personal note, my family has been raised in Whitehall, my grandchildren are growing up in Whitehall. Throughout the years I have attended countless sports games, community meetings both as a resident and board member. It has been my privilege to live and work in Whitehall. I have a vested interest in the future of our community.
The following are the four key areas of concern:
- Parks & Recreation: Our comprehensive Recreation Plan has not been updated since 2004. Currently two pools are closed and some of our parks need attention and our budget is now $1,200,000. I believe it is time to update our plan and insure that our community is getting the best for our dollars being spent.
- Public Safety: Within public safety falls three important categories: Police, Fire, and Ambulance Services. We all depend on these services in our time of need and should expect that they will be readily available. Currently there is a shortfall in staffing and volunteers that needs to be addressed immediately.
- Personnel Transition: Whitehall has always had top, knowledgeable personnel working for our residents, many of whom have been loyal to Whitehall for 25+ years. As retirement age approaches it is imperative that we have a plan for transition for their replacements.
- Taxes: Not one of the most popular topics when running for office but a necessary one. I would prefer to be honest here by stating that I have reviewed our Township Budget in detail and there are areas that I feel can be improved upon. My goal is to ensure that our tax dollars are being utilized to the maximum return.
